Rick Elzinga fifth in Teutschenthal

Rick Elzinga of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team finished fifth in the German Grand Prix. Elzinga managed to finish in fifth place in both the first and second heats and thus scored consistently in Germany.

The eighth round of the world championship was held on a fairly muddy circuit in Teutschenthal, East Germany. After a positive Saturday in which Elzinga set the fourth fastest time in timed training and achieved fifth place in the qualifying heat, he continued this trend on Sunday.

In the first moto Elzinga got a good start and was riding in fifth place from the first to the last lap and also crossed the finish line in this position. Elzinga also had a good start in the second heat and finished the first lap in sixth place. After he was able to benefit from a crash from world champion Andrea Adamo, Elzinga finished the race again in fifth place. 5-5 in the heats also meant a fifth place in the German Grand Prix. Elzinga climbs to seventh place in the world championship standings.

The next race of the world championship is next weekend (8-9 June) in Kegums, Latvia.

Rick Elzinga: “It was pretty muddy this morning after the rain, but I don’t mind the mud and I was feeling good and placed third in Warm-up. In Race One I had a really good start but then I was shuffled back a little bit. I got into fifth and then there was a big gap to the leaders and a big gap behind me, so it was a little bit like a training moto to the end. For Race Two they had done a lot of work to the track and I made a few mistakes early on. I passed Andrea Adamo when he fell and then I held him off to the end so that was good. The intensity in Race Two was really high so I’m happy with my performance in that one.”
