Jens Walvoort shows determination in Dutch GP

BTS Racing’s Jens Walvoort demonstrated his perseverance during the Dutch Grand Prix in Arnhem. Walvoort had been ill throughout the week and was forced to dig deep on the demanding sand circuit.

Despite not feeling fully fit, Walvoort managed to finish qualifying day on a positive note. After setting the sixteenth fastest time in time practice, he rode to a tenth-place finish in the qualifying heat, earning a valuable point.

In Sunday’s first moto, Walvoort got off to a strong start and held ninth position for a long stretch. Just before the halfway mark he dropped back to eleventh but continued to fight hard. Even as breathing became more difficult, he held on to eleventh place until the closing stages, but eventually lost one more spot and crossed the finish line exhausted in twelfth.

A very good start in the second moto once again put him in a strong position. However, a crash in the opening lap pushed him back to the rear of the field. Walvoort began a charge through the pack and worked his way up to thirteenth place. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem then forced him to retire from the race.

With zero points from the second moto, Walvoort had to settle for sixteenth overall on the day. In the World Championship standings, he remains in twentieth position. The series continues on the weekend of September 6-7 in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey.
