Lotte van Drunen extends championship lead in Women’s Motocross World Championship

Lotte van Drunen of the De Baets MX Team strengthened her position in the title race during her home Grand Prix in Arnhem.

Van Drunen arrived in Arnhem with a six-point advantage in the standings, making it crucial to score strongly and extend her lead.

She started the weekend positively on Saturday by setting the second-fastest time in qualifying. The first moto also went smoothly: Van Drunen immediately took control of the race, managed the pace from the front, and claimed a convincing victory to increase her lead.

In Sunday morning’s second moto, she didn’t get away well at the start and had to fight her way forward. After several laps she moved into second place, but by then the race leader had already built up a gap. Van Drunen gradually closed the distance and launched an attack in the closing stages, but just fell short of taking over the lead and had to settle for second.

With a 1-2 moto score, Van Drunen finished second overall on the day but still managed to extend her championship advantage by 14 points. The penultimate round of the Women’s Motocross World Championship will be held on the weekend of September 6-7 in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey.
