Arnaud Tonus just misses Axel podium

Arnaud Tonus of the Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha MXGP team raced to a strong third place in race one of the Dutch Masters of Motocross at Axel. A mistake kept him down to fifth in the second race.

The sandy track of Axel was perfectly prepared for the event. It was clear though that the track would get heavy during the course of the day. This was a perfect training opportunity for the MXGP riders for next weekend's event in Italy and Arnaud started off well by qualifying fifth. The top qualifying times were very close together, so he was less than a second off pole position.

A good start gave Tonus a perfect view of events in race one. He rode a controlled race and finished in a strong third position. Tonus had another good start in the second heat and hoped to repeat the performance. Unfortunately, a minor crash dropped him to fifth position at the flag.

With third and fifth in the heats respectively, Tonus narrowly missed the podium and was fourth overall. Tonus will be joined by teammate Gautier Paulin at Mantova next weekend for the next round of the world championship series.
