Lars van Berkel victorious in wintercross in Groesbeek

Lars van Berkel of the Husqvarna SKS Racing NL team has won the wintercross in Groesbeek. Van Berkel managed to win both motos and took his first ever overall win in the wintercross. Boyd van der Voorn and Rick Wennekes were both riding in the combined MX2/MX1 class which resulted in a 13th position for Boyd and a 20th position for Rick.

The sun was shining and the track was well prepared. All three riders were ready to go for time practice. Lars set the third fastest time, Boyd ended up in fifteenth place and Rick had to be satisfied with 27th position.
In the opening moto it was Lars who took the best start from the three riders. After a few laps he started to close down the gap to the leaders. Soon after he took the lead and despite the fact that he wasn’t able to find his rhythm he held on to win the race. Boyd was riding a strong race and came home in 13th place. Rick took a good start but due to arm pump he had to lower the pace and came home in 27th position.

At the start of the second moto it was van Berkel who ran into the gate and had to come back from the back of the field. He made up a lot of positions in the opening lap and started to close down the gap tot he leaders. In the closing stages of the race he found a place to take over the lead and finally won the race. Boyd had great battles in a group of riders and crossed the finish line in fifteenth place. Rick had a better rhythm in the second moto and ended up in seventeenth place.

The next race for the Husqvarna SKS Racing NL team is the opening round of the Dutch Open Championship in Emmercompascuum on the 10th of March.
