De Wolf shows potential at MXGP of Garda

Leaping onto the Pietramurata track for the third time in a week, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 hit the Grand Prix of Garda today. The Grand Prix was round sixteen of the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship – the final chequered flag is rapidly approaching. Jed Beaton and Kay de Wolf were eager to improve on Wednesday, where both riders struggled with poor starts.

Beaton had a mediocre start in moto one, ending lap one in seventh, but got to work right away and begun making progress. It was not long until he slotted into fifth, which is where he ended up. One measly second separated him from the rider in fourth as the chequered flag waved! The second moto was tougher on him. Getting caught up in the mess on the first handful of laps, he had to work very hard to salvage a fourteenth after multiple crashes. Ninth overall was his final ranking at the Grand Prix of Garda.

Kay de Wolf continued to impress in his rookie season – he found himself in the thick of yet another intense battle in the first moto and secured eighth. The second moto was where his talent was most evident, as he moved from seventh on lap one to third and held the position for six laps. De Wolf made some mistakes in the final stages and had to settle for sixth, but his potential was clear for all to see once again. Seventh overall was his final ranking at the Grand Prix. One point separates him from that position in the standings.

The next appointment for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 outfit is set to take place this weekend. Mantova will host the Grand Prix of Lombardia, the penultimate round of the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship.

Jed Beaton: "It is on me. I got off to a really bad start in the second moto and got caught up in the second turn. I was trying to come through as quickly as possible on the first lap but slid out on the second lap. It was frustrating. I felt like I was riding quite well after that, to be honest, but I crashed again. It was a really bad moto for me, the second one. I am looking forward to the double header at Mantova now!"

Kay de Wolf: "This was better than Wednesday, for sure. I had some crazy battles today. I was in a huge battle in the first moto, but the second moto was calmer. I was around seventh in moto two and got to third. I was happy with that moto and really enjoyed the riding. It is so much different if you have a good flow on this track! I am pretty happy about today."
