Carrying momentum from such a promising outing on Wednesday, Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee jumped into the Grand Prix of Garda today. The race was run on the same Pietramurata layout that Conrad Mewse was so competitive on days before. Hopes were high entering the sixteenth round of the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship.
 
Mewse showed flashes of that speed from Wednesday in the first moto, as he again ran some of the fastest times in sector one. A mediocre start made it tough on him though. Mewse actually completed the first lap down in nineteenth, so did well to recover to ninth by the time that the chequered flag waved. Seven tenths separated him and the rider in eighth at the end!

Unfortunately, moto two was not quite as kind. Another bad start meant that he started outside of the top twenty. Progress was trickier to make this time and, consequently, he could only advance to seventeenth at the finish. A 9-17 scorecard gave him thirteenth overall at the Grand Prix of Garda. Mewse is seventeenth in the championship standings.
 
Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee will return to Mantova, where Mewse helped Great Britain get onto the Motocross of Nations podium, this coming weekend. Mantova will host the final two events of the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship, starting with the Grand Prix of Lombardia.

Roger Magee (Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee Team Owner): "Conrad did not set such a good time in timed practice, which limited his choice of gate pick. A mediocre start in the first moto, P19, left him with a lot of work to do. He showed similar pace to the leaders even when coming through the pack, ending up in P9 when his lap times deserved a better placing. Again in moto two he was down in P23 on the opening lap and didn't have the raw speed that he had shown earlier in the day and only elevated himself to P17. The team now makes the relatively short journey to Mantova where Conrad will hopefully pick up where he left off on the Saturday of the MXoN where he was quickest rider in the qualifying race in the terms of raw speed."
