Kay de Wolf mounts podium at MXGP finale

Jed Beaton finished his time as a Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 pilot today, as the portion of his career that includes the FC 250 drew to a close. The 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship finale, the Grand Prix of Citta di Mantova, was the setting for such an occasion. Mantova played host to its second and final Grand Prix of the season.

Kay de Wolf shined at the event, similar to the trophy that he picked up for finishing in third overall at the Grand Prix of Citta di Mantova. The way that he performed in moto one was just phenomenal – he started in fourth and managed to advance to second by the time that the chequered flag waved. It was the first time that he has featured in the top two since the Grand Prix of Flanders-Belgium in August. Eight seconds separated him from the eventual victor.

A mediocre start hindered him in moto two, unfortunately, as he started down in the lower half of the top ten and had some work to do. De Wolf applied himself well to secure seventh at the end, which left him in third overall and seventh in the final championship standings. It was a rather impressive rookie year for the Dutchman, who landed on the box four times and bagged a race win along the way as well.

Jed Beaton was so close to making a podium bid in his final outing on the FC 250, but an untimely crash at the end of moto one meant that he lost out on fourth place. Beaton worked hard to move up into that spot after starting in eighth, but ultimately had to settle for seventh at the chequered flag. A mediocre start in the second moto meant that he was limited and could only clinch eighth. A 7-8 scorecard left him in seventh overall on the day.

Beaton secured fifth in the final championship standings, his second top five in succession, but he was just eight measly points from the rider in fourth. The top-five ranking rounded off a successful three-year term with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 team. Six podium finishes and one moto win later, he bids farewell to his beloved FC 250.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 squad will release more news, regarding plans for the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to the social channels for more.

Kay de Wolf: "I have really enjoyed being back in the sand. Being on the box was amazing today, and now my goals will change for next year. My goal was to finish top fifteen this year and we ended up seventh in the championship! We will go for top five next year and see what we can do."

Jed Beaton: "It was a bit of a tough day, but I felt good in the first race. There were people going down everywhere and then I crashed on the last lap, in the stupidest crash ever, which was frustrating. Another bad start in the second moto put me at too much of a disadvantage. The team has been with me through thick and thin, and we have built such a solid relationship in that time. It is definitely a bit emotional."
