Jeremy Seewer claims fourth in 2021 MXGP

The 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship reached a conclusion today, as the final chequered flag waved at the Grand Prix of Citta di Mantova. Yes, the sandy circuit of Mantova hosted its second Grand Prix in succession and third event of the year (including the Motocross of Nations where Ben Watson triumphed). The sandy venue shaped up quite nicely for the on-track action, thanks to overcast skies that kept moisture in the ground.

A 4-4 scorecard at the final Grand Prix of the term was not a true representation of the speed that Jeremy Seewer possessed. Seewer ran as high as third in the first moto, before an incident with another rider knocked him back to eighth. Fourth was the position that he recovered to by the time that the chequered flag waved. Seewer then followed a more conventional path to another fourth place in moto two, as he started sixth and worked his way into the position within a couple of laps. 4-4 put him fourth overall at the event and, additionally, helped him to claim fourth in the championship standings. A day of fourths!

Glenn Coldenhoff enjoyed a consistent day, like his teammate, as he recorded an 8-8 scorecard at the Grand Prix of Citta di Mantova. The first moto was his most impressive, as he moved up from tenth to secure the spot. Such a solid outing put him in seventh in the overall classification and the final championship standings as well. It was a positive first term aboard the YZ450FM, but one that he is eager to improve on when the new season starts in a matter of months.

The overall result that Ben Watson clinched at the finale, eleventh, mirrored his final ranking in the standings as well. Watson was in the midst of the most intense battles all day and finished ninth in the first stint, after running as high as seventh. Fourteenth was his ranking in the second moto after a mediocre start. Although Watson was eleventh in the standings, 19 measly points separated him from the rider in tenth. 32 points separated him from ninth.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP would like to thank all of the partners and fans who have shown support in the last twelve months. More news about the plans for the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship will be released in due course.

Jeremy Seewer: "The last two GPs here in Mantova have been really good. I had the speed of the top three, and those top-three had to ride at 120% today because they were battling for the title. To keep up with them was really positive. I feel like I have really made a step forward recently, with my bike set-up and with myself, and have finally bounced back from the health issues I faced most of the season. I also came into today in sixth and managed to get the job done to finish fourth overall, which I know doesn't count that much but still it is always positive to gain positions. The podium was not too far away today, which I am really happy with, and it gives me confidence and motivation going into the next season."

Glenn Coldenhoff: "Today, we started off pretty good. We made a big change from last weekend to the bike, which definitely suited me a lot better. I am very happy that this season is done now. It has been quite a tough season for me, especially mentally. I have found it tough to accept a lot of the results I achieved this year, not only for me but for everyone around me. We kept working really hard and never ever gave up. That is something I am proud of, but now we are ready to make a plan for the winter to hopefully come back strong next year and ready to fight with the guys for the title. At the end of the day that is my dream and has always been my goal."

Ben Watson: "Honestly, my first MXGP season has been tough. We have had many ups, but a lot of downs. The thing is, I need to learn a lot and if I could redo the season I would change a lot of my decisions. I have mixed feelings about how the racing went today, not the results I wanted, but I felt better on the bike in the last race and that is a positive to take away."
